Reading at Oldfield in 2024
This year we have had lots of great events to do with reading!
Year 5 presented work to Year 2 based on their Spring 1 English text - The Runaway Robot
We welcomed in Parents and Carers to all year groups as part of National Storytelling Week
Year 2 had a stop-motion workshop based on their favourite book character.
As part of our World Book Day celebrations we welcomed in authors to speak to the children.
Petr Horáček spoke to children in Reception and KS1. He kindly showed off his artistic skills and drew some characters for the children which are proudly displayed in the Reception and KS1 classrooms and corridors.
Years 5 and 6 had a visit from Iszi Lawrence who spoke to them about her new book, 'Billie Swift takes flight'. The children loved listening to Iszi's enthusiastic talk and had plenty of historical questions afterwards.
After Easter we were lucky enough to have two local authors come in and speak to the children. Philip Kavvadias, author of Mission Microraptor spoke to Years 4 and 5 and Rhian Lynette, author of Goose and Bear spoke to children in Reception, Years 1, 2 and 3.
In June we celebrated phonics by hosting our second Little Wandle Celebration Day. Children in Reception, Years 1 and 2 created and played their own phonics games, came in dressed up as a GPC and took part in a phonics hunt on the playground.
We are looking forward to the rest of the term and many more book related activities!
